Kristen Pate is General Counsel of the U.S. retail business at Brookfield Properties. In this role she is responsible for the structuring, negotiation, and execution of all legal matters associated with leasing, development, financings, acquisitions, mergers and investments. Kristen is also responsible for the placement and management of all lines of insurance and third-party risk transfer structures for all sectors within Brookfield Properties’ North American portfolio. As General Counsel of the retail business, Kristen leads the following teams: Legal Leasing, Legal Real Estate, Litigation and Employment, Asset Recovery, Tenant Bankruptcy, Contracts and Risk Management.
In 2005, Kristen joined the company as a member of the commercial real estate legal team focused on litigation and distressed tenant workouts. She was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2018, leading Legal Leasing, Risk Management and Insurance.
Kristen holds a Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University Law Center and a bachelor’s from Louisiana State University. She is the fundraising chairperson for ReNew Communities, a non-profit focused on providing housing, job and mentoring support for residents of North Chicago, Illinois.
