During the COVID-19 pandemic, temporary barriers constructed of plexiglass and aluminum frames were installed between workstations at Brookfield Properties’ corporate office, in adherence with government safety protocols. Post-pandemic, rather than discarding these materials into landfills, the aluminum frames and plexiglass panels were donated to Studio F Minus, a local artist.
The transformation of remnants, once emblematic of separation, into an immersive LED sculpture is a profound exploration of the concept of repurposing and testament to the unifying power of art. It challenges traditional notions of art and materials, offering a unique perspective on sustainability and creativity. Emphasizing themes of play and unity, the resulting interactive sculpture encourages touch and interaction, drawing people together in a shared creative experience.
From the artist:
People want to leave their mark. Whether it is a finger on a steamed window, a stick in wet sand or in the margins of a notebook we all doodle and play. Drawn Together is a 32’ LED sculpture that allows the user to create, draw, write and play by simply wiping their hands across its lit surface by rotating the two-sided pixel barrels.
